Personal insurance
Home insurance in Raleigh, NC
Your home is unique. Your policy should be too.
What it is
Fire, wind, theft and liability claims can all threaten your largest investment. We shape a homeowners policy around your house, your belongings and the way you live.
Every policy is different, and exact coverage depends on the insurance company and the options you choose. We’ll walk you through the details before you buy.
What we can help you cover
- Dwelling coverage to repair or rebuild your home
- Personal property protection for your belongings
- Personal liability if someone is hurt on your property
- Additional living expenses if you have to move out during repairs
Home insurance for Raleigh houses
Raleigh has a little of everything: older brick ranches and bungalows inside the Beltline, 1980s and 1990s neighborhoods off Six Forks and Falls of Neuse, and newer construction out toward I-540. The age of the home, the roof and the major systems all shape which insurance companies want to write it and how the policy is built, so we start with the house itself rather than a one-size quote.
A standard homeowners policy pulls several protections together: coverage to repair or rebuild the dwelling, other structures such as a detached garage or fence, your personal belongings, additional living expenses if a covered loss forces you out, and personal liability if someone is hurt on your property or you accidentally damage someone else’s.
Storms, falling trees and water
Raleigh’s mature hardwoods are part of its charm, and they are also one of the most common reasons homeowners file a claim after a summer thunderstorm or the remnants of a tropical system. Wind and falling-tree damage to the house is generally covered; what varies is the deductible. Some policies carry a separate wind/hail or named-storm deductible, sometimes set as a percentage of the dwelling limit, so we point that out before you buy.
Water is where gaps show up. Flooding from rising water is excluded from standard home policies and needs a separate flood policy. Water or sewer that backs up through drains is also usually excluded unless you add a water backup endorsement, which is worth a look if you have a finished basement or a lower level.
Choosing the right limits
The dwelling limit should reflect what it would cost to rebuild your home at today’s labor and material prices, not what you paid for it or its market value. We also walk through replacement cost versus actual cash value for your belongings, ordinance or law coverage for older homes that may need code upgrades during a rebuild, and scheduled coverage for jewelry or other valuables that exceed the standard limits.
Because we are an independent agency, we can compare several insurance companies for the same house. That matters in North Carolina, where carriers differ on roof age, prior claims and older electrical or plumbing systems.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does homeowners insurance cover a tree falling on my house in Raleigh?
Generally yes, when a covered peril such as wind brings the tree down onto the house or another insured structure. Your deductible applies, and some policies use a separate wind or named-storm deductible. Removing a tree that fell without hitting anything is often limited, so we review the details with you.
How do I get a home insurance quote in Raleigh?
Use the quick quote form on this page, call (276) 597-9844, or stop by our office at 8398 Six Forks Road, Suite 202. We ask about the home’s age, roof, square footage and any prior claims, then compare several insurance companies and walk you through the options.
Why do home insurance rates in Raleigh differ from company to company?
Home insurance rates in North Carolina start from filings with the NC Rate Bureau, but insurance companies can deviate from those rates and set their own underwriting rules for roof age, claims history and construction. That is why the same Raleigh house can be priced differently by different companies, and why comparing them is worth the time.
Is flood covered by my home policy?
No. Standard homeowners policies exclude flood from rising water. A separate flood policy through the National Flood Insurance Program or a private flood market can fill that gap, even if you are outside a mapped flood zone.
What does Home Insurance typically cover?
Fire, wind, theft and liability claims can all threaten your largest investment. We shape a homeowners policy around your house, your belongings and the way you live. Exact limits, deductibles and exclusions depend on the policy and the insurance company, so we review the details with you before you buy.
